Working remotely from the Hamptons
A split week out east means one or two round trips a week, and the pinch points are Monday morning back and Thursday evening out. The schedules show what is available at each.
Fares and schedules checked October 2026.
People who work from the Hamptons part of the week tend to follow one of two patterns: Thursday to Monday, with an early Monday return, or Monday to Wednesday in the city and the rest out east. The first depends on a train or bus that gets back to Manhattan by 9 or 10 AM. The tables on the commuting guide are the Monday trips; here is how to read them.
- Monday returns. The Jitney's earliest westbound trips from Southampton leave at 5:15 AM Monday through Saturday and 5:45 AM on Fridays, reaching Midtown at 7:20 and 7:50 AM. Ambassador trips at 6:45 and 7:45 AM arrive at 9:15 and 10:00 AM.
- Thursday evenings out. The Jitney's 3:00 PM Ambassador and 4:00 PM departures run Thursday; the LIRR's 5:13 PM train from Penn Station runs every weekday.
- Fares for a split week. Two round trips a week at the Jitney's value-pack rate is about $113 a week; LIRR peak fares are $132. A weekly LIRR ticket is $173.50.
- Connectivity. This site has not verified Wi-Fi or power on any bus or train. Check with the operator before you plan to work in transit.
