Commuting from the Hamptons to NYC
A daily commute from the Hamptons is possible on the LIRR and the Jitney, but from Southampton the earliest trips leave at 4:32 AM and 5:15 AM and reach Manhattan at 6:56 and 7:20 AM, so it works for a narrow set of schedules.
Fares and schedules checked October 2026.
The fares make it feasible on the LIRR and, to a degree, the Jitney: a Zone 14 weekly ticket is $173.50 and a monthly is $487.75, against $66 for a peak round trip. The schedules make it hard. Practical limits
- Only the 4:32 AM train and the 5:15 AM bus put you in Manhattan before 8 AM from Southampton. The 6:28 AM train ends in Long Island City, not Manhattan.
- The South Fork shuttle trains do not connect to trains to or from the city; see South Fork Commuter Connection.
- Jamaica is the change point for many trains. Allow time for the platform change.
- These are the winter timetables: LIRR data through February 28, 2027 and the Jitney schedule to January 6, 2027.
