Ferries on the East End

Four ferry operators matter to a Hamptons trip. Two link Shelter Island to the forks, one crosses Long Island Sound to Connecticut, and one runs a seasonal fast ferry from Montauk to Block Island.

Fares and schedules checked October 2026.

Shelter Island has no bridge, so the ferries are the road. The South Ferry lands in North Haven beside Sag Harbor, and the North Ferry lands in Greenport. The Cross Sound Ferry connects Orient Point with New London, and the Montauk to Block Island ferry is seasonal and passenger-only.

Using the ferries to reach the Hamptons

From Manhattan, the usual plan for Shelter Island is the Jitney to Sag Harbor and the South Ferry. From Connecticut, the Cross Sound Ferry gets you to Orient Point, and SCT Route 92 or a car carries you on to the North Ferry. The Connecticut route page and the Shelter Island route page lay out the sequence.
