The Long Island Rail Road's Montauk Branch serves Water Mill through Southampton. On the winter timetable the Friday express leaves Penn Station at 4:07 PM and arrives at 5:59 PM; other trains start in Jamaica or at Hunterspoint Avenue and need a connection from Manhattan. Getting around Water Mill when you arrive

The Jitney lists the stop as Watermill. Southampton or Bridgehampton station are the train options, each with a ride at the end. Water Mill is not among the communities SCT lists for On-Demand service, so check the zone map before you rely on it.

On the posted schedule Water Mill comes five minutes after Southampton on every eastbound Montauk Line trip, so a Southampton ticket and a short ride is a fallback if the times do not line up.
