Cheapest way from NYC to the Hamptons
The cheapest published way is the off-peak LIRR at $24.50 to Zone 14, or $18.75 to Speonk. A Jitney value pack comes close at about $23 to $28 a ticket.

Ways to lower the price
- Ride the LIRR off-peak. Trips within Zones 4 to 14 are the same price at peak and off-peak, but trips to and from Zone 1 are not.
- Buy Jitney e-tickets in a 12-ticket pack. They are valid for three years, so unused tickets carry to next summer.
- Skip the Ambassador upgrade unless you want the legroom; it adds $25 each way.
- Book Luxury Liner early. Fares rise as a trip fills and as the date approaches.
- Take a weekend day pass if you will ride several times: $49.00 for Zone 14 on weekends.
Cheapest does not mean easiest
Most Montauk Branch trains start at Jamaica, so a $24.50 train ticket to Montauk usually means a change there and a ride at the end. A $43 bus seat means a stop in Manhattan and a ride at the end. The cost of the last mile is where the trips differ most, and SCT On-Demand at $2.25 is the cheapest way to cover it in the zones it serves.
