SCT On-Demand rides on the South Fork
Suffolk County Transit On-Demand books a shared ride from an app or by phone, promises pickup within about 20 minutes, and runs 6 AM to 8 PM every day of the year.
Fares and schedules checked October 2026.
It runs alongside Suffolk County Transit fixed routes and covers two zones on the South Fork. The Southampton zone includes Southampton, North Sea, North Haven and Sag Harbor. The East Hampton zone includes East Hampton, Springs, Amagansett and Montauk. SCT lists a fare identical to the regular bus system, and it runs 365 days a year including holidays. It is the closest thing to a local taxi at bus prices.
How to book
- Download the Suffolk Transit On-Demand app from the App Store or Google Play and make an account.
- Enter your pickup and drop-off addresses and choose a ride option.
- Meet the vehicle where the app says. It may be a short walk from the address you gave.
- No smartphone? Call (631) 818-2982.
Fares and transfers
The base fare is the standard SCT fare of $2.25. Boarding a fixed-route bus and then transferring to On-Demand adds $0.25 and requires a transfer ticket from the driver. Read the details on SCT's On-Demand page before you rely on a transfer.
Where it fits
On-Demand matters for the towns that have no train or Jitney stop of their own. Springs is the clearest case, and Sag Harbor and Montauk are covered in their zones. Water Mill, Wainscott and Sagaponack are not on SCT's list of named communities, so call or check the map before assuming a pickup.
The service ends at 8 PM. For late arrivals off the last train or bus, plan a taxi or a pickup.
