Holiday weekend traffic to the Hamptons

Holiday weekends change the transit schedule more than the road. In 2026 the Cannonball skipped June 18 and 19 and July 2 and 3, and the Jitney warns that fares can rise 4 to 8 percent on peak days.

Fares and schedules checked October 2026.

No agency publishes holiday traffic forecasts for the South Fork, so this page sticks to what the operators did and said. Most of it is about 2026; the 2027 patterns will be announced in spring.

  • Memorial Day. The MTA launched the Cannonball on Thursday, May 21, 2026, ahead of the weekend, and the westbound Cannonball left the Hamptons on Memorial Day that year rather than on a Sunday evening.
  • Juneteenth and July 4. amNY reported that the 2026 Cannonball would not run on June 18 and 19 or on July 2 and 3. Another outlet reported extra Thursday service on holiday weekends, so reports differ; check the MTA before you go.
  • Jitney peak days. The fare page says fares can increase 4 to 8 percent on peak days but does not list the dates.

The details of 2027 holiday service are not announced yet. Check the MTA and the Jitney in spring.

For the road, Friday traffic and Sunday traffic explain what to check. For alternatives, see the Cannonball and Jitney pages.
